Whether it’s LED rope lights adding a luminous glow to bars and buildings or those tiny LEDs adding that extra sparkle to our Christmas trees in the winter, LEDs have a number of advantages over the traditional fluorescent and incandescent lighting methods.
LED lights last a lot longer than their fluorescent and incandescent counterparts – up to 50 times longer. The majority of LEDs have a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours, whereas incandescent bulbs typically last around 1,000 hours.
Less Lighting Needed
LEDs are able to focus their light in a particular direction better than other lighting methods, meaning that that fewer LED lights are needed to achieve the same level of lighting which is given off by fluorescent light bulbs. This reduction in energy consumption is great news for the environment, and your energy bills.
LEDs are Cooler
Fluorescent light bulbs are known to give off quite a lot of heat. If you’re trying to cool your house down, these bulbs won’t help the situation. Thankfully, LEDs are much cooler – so if you live somewhere that reaches particularly high temperatures, you might want to consider investing in them.
Often, fluorescent and incandescent lighting takes a while after being turned on to reach full brightness. When an LED is turned on, you’ll get its full brightness straight away, which is helpful when you just need to pop into a room quickly.
Studies have shown that insects are less attracted to LED lighting than they are to incandescent bulbs. Many of us have suffered with the constant bites of mosquitoes during summer evenings, and whilst having LED lighting in your garden won’t prevent them from flying by, there’s a good chance that they won’t stick around to bite you.
